A Statement from Rob Carmack
As many of you know, I have struggled quite a bit over the past year and a half, battling both severe clinical depression and anxiety. I’ve been in treatment, I’ve been taking medication to help me fight these battles, and I am generally in a better place than I was a year ago.
However, over the past several months—since our in-person return in May—I have struggled to serve as the pastor of Collective Church in a healthy, sustainable way while also trying to provide and care for my family. Because of this, I have made the difficult decision to step down from my role as lead pastor of Collective Church, effective January 31, 2022.
When we started this church in 2014, it was the realization of something I didn’t even know was possible—an inclusive church that created an environment that was built on mutual love and respect for others and a commitment to bringing grace and peace into the world. Serving as the pastor of this church for the past eight years has been one of the greatest joys and privileges of my life. I could never fully express my love and gratitude for each of you.
As of now, the plan is for new leadership to take over and for the church to move forward without Caroline and me. I hope that you’ll continue to participate and see what’s coming next for Collective Church. This church was never meant to revolve around any single person, and its goals and mission will continue. For any questions or concerns about the future of the church, you can email Megan Lawton or Courtney Clark.
Thank you so much for entrusting me with your time and your respective spiritual journeys. Thank you for everything you have given to me and to my family.
Grace and peace to each of you.
-Rob
